How Long Does It Take to Build a Swimming Pool?

How much time does it take to build a swimming pool? There is no set timeline. However, pool contractors say it takes roughly eight to twelve weeks to complete a project. Of course, there are plenty of factors to consider, such as the type of pool being built, local regulations and approvals, weather conditions, the size of the swimming pool, and the availability of labor and materials. The Steps for Building a Swimming Pool 

1. Design and Planning Stage

Like building a house, the construction process starts with design and planning. You will meet with your pool designer or architect to share your pool design ideas. They will check if your design is feasible for construction. Your designer will take note of the size, shape, depth, and location of the pool as well as the materials and water features you want to use.  

2. Permits and Approvals  

Once you’ve decided on a pool design, the next stage of the pool construction process is getting the required permits and approvals from your local government. If you live in a gated subdivision, you must also seek approval from your homeowner’s association. This phase can be challenging because it depends on how long officials approve the permits. Typically, it can take two weeks or more. 

3. Site Preparation

When you’ve completed stage two, your next step is site preparation. The construction team will prepare the area where the pool will be constructed. Site preparation includes clearing the area, excavating the ground, and leveling the site. In some cases, retaining walls may be needed to level the surface.  

4. Pool Installation

Now that the site is prepared, the pool installation process begins. Each process is different depending on the pool type you want. In the case of a concrete pool, the excavated area will be filled with concrete and shaped to your specified design. Some clients prefer a fiberglass pool. Unlike concrete pools, this unique type of pool is built by lowering the prefabricated shell into place and leveling it. 

5. Plumbing and Electrical

Now that the pool has been installed, the next thing to do is to install the plumbing and electrical systems. This includes pipes and wires that connect your pool to the pool equipment, like a heater, filter, and pump. 

6. Pool Decking and Finishing

When the electrical and plumbing systems are set, your team will work on the decking and finishing. This is also the stage where they install landscaping and water features on the walls and floors of your pool.  

7. Testing

When all the pool features are installed, the team will test them to see if they work correctly. This is also the stage where the team checks for any potential issues like leaks.  

8. Final Inspection

Last but not least is the final inspection. Your construction team will conduct a final inspection of your swimming pool, ensuring that it meets all safety requirements.
